Few topics within the church cause as much division and debate as homosexuality. But while the culture wars rage there are youth in your church who are just trying to survive and understand their faith and sexuality. This seminar moves beyond taking sides in the theological debate and aims to help youth leaders focus on the things that unite us: our love for Jesus and our love for youth. This seminar will help you understand sexual development, what we know (and more important don’t know) about the causation of sexual orientations. It will give you ideas how to mentor teens as they try to put the pieces of faith and sexuality together while simultaneously being non coercive, and faithful to Scripture. It will also discuss how to work together in youth ministry across denominational lines in the face of diverse understandings of this issue. Loving youth who are working through their sexual identity is hard and messy, and no one-hour seminar is going to solve it all, but this one will help you get your bearings, and give you a good place to start.
