Reaching the Schools in Your Community (YM Nuts & Bolts)

Description:

Public schools. These two words [when put together] can evoke a wide variety of responses from youth pastors. Some have tried, unsuccessfully, to build strong partnerships, only to be met with suspicion or hostility (I’ve heard of one pastor being told never to come on the school property again – on threat that the police be called!). Others have found ways to sneak through the system (I know a youth pastor who used to put on a baseball cap, swing a backpack on his shoulder, and pretend to be a student; wandering the halls at will…) Still others seem to be meeting with success at every turn. We know schools are an incredible mission field, but how can we effectively connect with them? How do we deal with legalities, proselytizing, partnerships, etc? This practical session will help pave a way through the confusion, and share tried and tested methods of building successful partnerships with the schools in your community.
